Nick’s big surprise

An upcoming episode of “The Doctors” holds a special surprise for a teenager bat tling diabetes.

The May 1 episode features Rachel, a 13-year-old from Manhattan Beach, Calif., who’s on the show with her mother to discuss how she’s treated her diabetes the past two years. She’s totally taken by surprise when Dr. Travis Stork whisks her in a limo to see Nick Jonas, the Jonas Brothers star who’s been very pub lic in his battle with diabetes and how he lives with the disease. Nick gives Rachel a new Countour Meter so she can monitor her blood sugar — and she gets an extra-special surprise (which I won’t reveal here). “The Doctors” airs 9 a.m. on Ch. 2.

The big switchover to all-dig ital broadcasting will happen June 12 — and millions of people still aren’t ready for the conversion with only nine weeks to go, according to Nielsen. Roughly 3.6 million households haven’t chucked the old rabbit ears in order to receive the digital TV signal — but that’s still an improve ment of over 200,000 house holds in the past two weeks, Nielsen says.
